  Bethel Brother for 15 years called to "head office" thought he was qoute: "Going to get fired."

  he's been there since the early 1980's and was called to the "head office" for the first time in 15 years!

  i was told he crapped himself saying i qoute: "i thought they were going to fire me.

  " instead he got a free trip to korea to represent our bethel during the next convention....a reward or bonus for his many years of service....the elder who told me about this said how "kind" bethel is to do this, but i just thought damn, the guys been getting $50 bucks a month pay for 15 years...at least send him to disneyland as well!.

  What was this post about? (Scrolls back to the top)...oh yeah! You know, the Disneyland ticket would have been nice, but it is the "magic kingdom" and we all know magic is bad! Remember the Awake! magazine on it back in the old, old format? I was a kid who had never been to Disney and was sure it was going to say how evil it was! It was in a deep pink ink and had a little girl with a balloon running in front of Cinderella's castle if I remember correctly.

  How sad to be loyal for 15 years and fear that you would be kicked out at the drop of a hat. It just shows how little faith these ones who have sacrificed their youth and productive years have in their security there. They were told Jehovah would take care of them and they were doing him a great service. They were told it was a privelege and honor to serve at Bethal. That they were required to meet Bethal's demands to stay and must serve at least a year. The fine print was that they wouldn't necessarily have a home if they sacrificed themselves on Bethal's alter. It is a gamble and every day it could change. Is that really "God's loving arrangement"? Evidently Watchtower's god doesn't really "remember all you have done for my name". He is waiting to put them on the street like piece of used up trash.

  Why is it that JWs can toss around insults like "Worldly" when talking about non-JWs? (Fiancee got offended).

  so yesterday i get this telephone call from a jw sister.

  let's call her sister naive.

  i knew sister naive when she was a teenager, knew her ex-husband when he and i were growing up in the congo.

  I am glad you are honest with her. She appreciates it I am sure. Talking it over, even if it took a few hours, lets you understand each other better and know how each other feels.

  The conversation let you see how her heart feels and how much it hurts her. She is able to see things with an eye that we don't have. It is enlightening to see an unindoctrined reaction to things that we were used to. This post itself, helps me see what an insult it is to use those terms. I know it is used as a descriptive term in JW land, but I never thought about it from the standpoint of one who isn't in the cult and is the recipient of the term. Astounding. Tell her thank you for helping and teaching us! And thank you Snakes for sharing this. It is enlightening to read your posts and think about ourselves in situations you find yourself in.

  Keep talking, keep loving, keep sharing! You will grow closer and closer. All the best!

  Elderly JW sister calls me today, much different reaction than earlier call from Sister Naive

  after my phone call today with sister naive (see link here), i really didn't want to talk to any more jws.

  i have written about an elderly sister in my old congo that calls me periodically.

  she is 90 and her daughter is 65, they still live independently in a small home.

  That's nice that you still have your "grandma"! She is just wanting the best for you, as it should be! I hope you have a lovely visit...and come away with another treasure of memories!

  It will be nice for your fiance to meet her....I met my hubby's surrogate grandma (a neighbor from his childhood home). She was better to him than both of his true grandmothers put together. God bless her, she passed this year. I know she's in heaven enjoying herself and am so glad she got to meet the children. Though I only met her twice, she is dear to my heart for the way she loved my hubby and took him under her wing. I understand why your fiance is eager to meet her!

  this halloween i will be the cave man on the insurance advertisement, i am going to drink more canadian mist and stay away from jack daniels jack gives headaches.

  this year i will have more shrimp rather than so much turkey and more deep fried mushrooms.

  i am going to laugh more this holiday season last time was a joke, i will also fiddle diddle and dance more too..

  Smurfs????????

  every now and then i come across comical references to smurfs in posts on this site, i have been in the org all my life and never heard of any demonisation of father abraham's little blue imaginary friends, even when they they hit the uk top ten singles chart.

  can someone enlighten me of what was said, where and when?

  maybe i missed it because i was more concerned about kiss using an ouija board in plane or axel rose being anagram of oral sex!!!

  I haven't checked the link posted yet to know if this is mentioned, but I remember hearing also how one family took one out to burn it and the doll wouldn't burn and it got up and walked out of the burning barrel. Ayeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

  You can imagine how scared and yet interested I was when my mom took all our smurf items, even stickers out to the burning barrell and set them on fire. Mine didn't jump out. But I sure looked like a crazy person as I explained to the kids at school why I couldn't watch them on T.V. or take that cute sticker they were trying to share with me. I'll never forget that look my friend gave me as I told her that story at school! I laugh now. I should ask her if she remembers that! LOL! We were in 5th grade at the time.

  Confessed my Doubts to my Wife

  well - i today i had the opportunity to tell my wife i no longer believe in the things that i have spent my life immersed in and that i didn't want my life run by 9 geriatrics in brooklyn.. her reaction was understandable her first questions was "what have you been reading"?.

  i didn't mention this site but told her i was shocked by something i heard regarding the wts's ngo status with the un, dissapointed by the new light on the generation and disturbed by the flip flopping on blood fractions.

  i explained how these things were at best hypocritical and at worst have meant some people have lost their lives unnecessarily because of the societies previous position.

  Congratulations!

  Keep it sincere and calm and pray about it. Pray for the Holy Spirit to guide you in what God is really teaching you. Let it lead you and know it may take her more time than it does you to see these things. At least it did me. Hubby saw things more quickly and more logically. I was more emotionally trapped. His logic helped me reason on things and not hide back behind the Watchtower because of fear.

  Those were excellent questions you asked her. Her answers were wonderful and very revealing. She's evidently had doubts too. That's great. She is using her logic and not letting fear conquer her. She is strong and has courage. So do you. Don't ever forget that!

  sleepless in seatle....dance your ass off....

  watching one of my all time fave movies on oxygen channel......the soundtrack is my fave of all movies btw.....but the entire time it is on there is an ad in white in the bottom right corner that says.... dance your ass off.

  now dont get me wrong....i cuss like a sailor compared to when i was a goodie two shoes dubbie.......but it did make me think that as a kid that was a "bad" word.....you could get in trouble at school for using it.......prob even if referring to a farm animal.....and now here it is on the tv screen for an entire movie???.

  anyway....it is bugging me......oompa.

  It bothers me too Oompa.

  Trying to raise kids that don't swear and watch disgusting movies is a real challenge today. The commercials are enough to give nightmares and scar their little minds and hearts! I hate that about TV. I hate having a commercial interrupting the show as they dance a time and people from the other show across the bottom of the screen. Intentionally breaking your concentration and messing up the picture.

  I hate that ABC advertises themselves as the "new family". I hate their "family" ideas. They are so corrupt and show no morals or values in their shows. I miss the days of "ALF", "Cosby" and "Home Improvement". There is nothing out there for "traditional family" television. I sure am not going to have my daughter watch a show about a pregnant 16 year old! Not the values I want instilled.

  I can't believe the way kids talk and act. The movies that their parents let them go to. We went to a *gasp* rated R movie for the first and only time over a year ago. There were so many little kids around 6 to 9 there I couldn't believe it. No wonder my kids have problems with terrible kids in their schools. Their parents are encouraging it. It's sad. So sad that they think it's alright to offend any and everyone with their obscenities.

  I may cuss enough to make a sailor blush at times...but I try not to do it in front of children or other people. I don't think the cat really counts...so he gets to hear it!
